A mask that passes this test with a filtration efficiency of 95% or higher is considered a “medical grade” face mask. While the ASTM F2100 standard is primarily designed for use with medical face masks, it can also be applied to other types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators.
The standard that covers the performance requirements and test methods for materials used to construct medical facemasks used in providing DIFFRENT Conditions.
Which ASTM face mask level should you use? Level 1—For procedures producing low amounts of fluid, spray and/or aerosols. Level 2—For procedures producing light to moderate amounts of fluid, spray and/or aerosols. Level 3—For procedures producing moderate to heavy amounts of fluid, spray and/or aerosols.
